How CO2 Fractional Laser helped Annie Cleared Acne Scars

How CO2 Fractional Laser helped Annie Cleared Acne Scars

Spending my childhood in California with four brothers, I didn’t bother for facial products or treatments. I played various sports, so perspiring + cosmetics = skin disaster. While i attended high school, makeup was not within my routine, and in college, I didn’t wear much foundation and mascara.

I moved to Washington DC at age 20, the difference in climate and the adjustment to putting on makeup to work on a daily basis was quite a challenge. Acne breakouts replaced my beautiful skin. And then scars began to appear.

About five years ago, I went and did a fractional CO2 laser as my acne scar treatment — three times (once per month). It changed my skin tone, totally. I was happy, amazed, and undoubtedly fascinated!

“CO2 laser is used to treat number of skin concerns,” said NYC dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah, founder of SmarterSkin Dermatology. “It can address texture and tone. It can be used to treat wrinkles, signs of aging, sun damaged skin, scars, uneven pigment. It can also be used to remove certain growths.”

My ugly acne scars were largely decreased — most of them were gone after the three CO2 fractional laser treatment!

How it happens

Fractional CO2 laser is meant to be an acne scar treatment by causing microscopic ‘wounds’ at the targeted areas underneath the skin’s most outer layer, which triggers our own natural production of new collagen and skin cells.

This can be painful, so before the procedure, a numbing cream was applied to my cheeks.

The actual procedure takes less time than the preparation — 15 minutes max. I was able to hear the buzzing sound of the laser. Perhaps every few minutes — a jolt of pain, which felt like an intense rubber band snap on the face make me teared a little.

My first experience with CO2 fractional laser made me stay home for almost seven days. I’d recommend that you choose a time of the year where you could stay home (holiday period, or annual leave)

As for the following week, I was prescribed antibiotics and was given instructions to apply an ointment after washing my face with a proper cleanser.

The pain went away after the first day, but my face still appeared red until day four. By the time day seven came, I was back to normal.

The CO2 Fractional Laser journey made my face looked clearer of discoloration, my pores had become less obvious.

This pricey process will make you a little less social for a few days, but all in all, I think it is a reliable acne scar treatment.

Beauty Trends in 2018 To Look Out For

In 2017 we saw the rise of SkinBoosters treatment and bio-stimulating dermal fillers such as Ellanse. And now with weeks into 2018, we saw some shift in beauty trends. While we saw some medical treatments surge in popularity in the beginning of 2018, there were also some treatments that visibly became less popular over the last few months. We speak to one of the most sought-after aesthetic doctors in Singapore, Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, to tell us more about what he believes to be the next big trends for 2018 and what makes them so special.

1. Rejuran Skin Healer / PDRN Skin Therapy

Commonly referred to as Rejuran Healer, PDRN Therapy, Miracle Healer Injection, the content of Rejuran Healer is made of biological molecules called polynucleotides. They are made of nucleotides bonded together. Some people many find the term ‘nucleotides’
familiar, because they are the basic units that form the DNA. The DNA extract in Rejuran or PDRN Therapy is obtained from a fish source, typically salmon. Salmon DNA has been used by doctors to treat wounds and promote skin healing for several years. In recent times, scientists have made slight changes to the formula for the use on the face for anti-aging purposes. The doctor uses a micro-needle to administer small doses of Rejuran Healer under the skin to promote skin renewal and improve overall skin texture. People who have undergone this treatment have raved about the remarkable results including smaller pores, less visible fine lines and wrinkles and improved acne scars.

2. Dual Yellow Laser Treatment

Unlike other conventional laser treatments, Dual Yellow Laser is specially designed to penetrate deep into the skin without breaking the skin surface. Relying on copper bromide based laser technology, Dual Yellow Laser offers multi- wavelength capability for different types of skin conditions. It is the gold standard for treating several skin abnormalities such as stubborn acne, bulky or vascular lesions, recurring melasma, and other severe pigmentation. Besides treating skin conditions, Dual Yellow Laser is also effective for general skin rejuvenation to reduce appearance of fine lines and for immediate skin brightening. Another unique function of Dual Yellow Laser is its capability to treat dark eye circles by breaking down the dark pigments under the eyes Being able to deliver remarkable results without any downtime, Dual Yellow Laser has naturally taken center stage of anti-aging treatment since the beginning of 2018.

3. Dysport Facelift Treatment

Dysport Facelift Treatment creates a natural, yet visible lift with almost no downtime for the patient. Using botulinum toxin to subtly lift saggy skin is a new concept devised by doctors to lift and tighten the skin non-surgically. Botulinum toxin is often used by doctors to relax overactive muscles for treating various conditions. In this case, a non-surgical facelift can be achieved by injecting Dysport into the superficial layers of the skin instead of the muscles. The treatment causes enlarged pores to constrict. After the treatment, the skin becomes firmer, pulling excess skin upwards to produce a subtle lift to the face. The effects continue to improve over the next few days as Dysport dissipates into the deeper muscles to help them relax and reduce wrinkles. At the same time, the treatment also helps to stimulate collagen production so that the skin on the face remains elastic and firm. 5 Solutions To Help You Look Younger Than Your Actual Age

5 Solutions To Help You Look Younger Than Your Actual Age

In this current day and age where youth is the most precious thing in the world, we will try to do anything to look young – men and women alike. Large skincare companies are leveraging on the fear of aging in people to build successful billion-dollar empires by selling ridiculously priced anti-aging creams.

Even though these expensive skin care creams are often marketed with claims that they will make people look younger, truth is, outcome of these topical skin care creams are modest at best.

We sit down with one of the most sought-after medical aesthetic doctors in Singapore to identify some non-surgical anti-aging treatments that actually work, instead of relying on skin care products that are delusive and exorbitant.

1) Non-Surgical Skin Lifting Treatments

Just over a decade ago, when people talk about looking younger, the only option was to undergo a surgical facelift. Back in those days, a surgical facelift was a rather major procedure which had elements of surgical risks. In addition, results were often unnatural as the skin was pulled back too tight.

Thanks to the advanced medical technologies, doctors have devised non-surgical skin lifting treatments for facial rejuvenation. Using dissolvable threads lined with anchors, doctors carefully place these threads under the skin using a fine needle. After the 40-minute procedure, your skin will be visibly lifted as the anchors reposition them higher to where they once were. The two most common non-surgical thread lift treatments are Silhouette

2) Soft Thread Lift and PDO Thread Lift.

A less invasive option is to use high intensity focused ultrasound to heat up the deep layers of the skin to induce collagen production. Over the next few months after the treatment, the skin will gradually tighten and lift the saggy skin. This treatment is often offered as Ultherapy or HIFU treatment in Singapore.

3) Laser Treatments for Brighter, Fairer Skin

Skin discoloration can occur in the form of age spots, freckles, or melasma in older people. The visible appearance of pigmentation can add several years to your look by making you look dull and unattractive.

With more than ten years of experience seeing patients with pigmentation issues, Dr. Siew put together an effective pigmentation treatment that is highly acclaimed by his patients. Called the Skin Illumination Program, it is a 5-session program that consists of not one but four different laser treatments to target different types of pigments. Depending on what treatment is needed, each session can be packed with Dual Yellow Laser, Skin Brightening Laser, LASEMD Skin Perfecting Laser, or Ruvy Touch Pigment Laser.

4) Liquid Facelift with Dermal Fillers

As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid that is naturally found in our skin. Hyaluronic acid is an important component for hydration and moisture retention. Skin starts to lose hyaluronic acid as early as mid-20s. The skin sags and fine lines start to appear on the face as we age, revealing your real age to the world. This can be easily addressed by replenishing the loss moisture with dermal fillers. Dermal filler in Singapore is a very popular non-surgical way to rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin via a series of microinjections. Depending on the severity of the skin condition and the result you want to achieve, the doctor may recommend you to undergo a course of 3-4 treatments.

Be amazed by the restoration of youthful skin with a brighter, dewy and radiant complexion after every session of dermal filler treatment.

5) Laser Treatment for a Smoother Complexion

People tend to see bigger pores, crepey skin, and fine lines because of intrinsic aging. Scars and lacklustre skin texture can also make you look weather-beaten and tired. Give your complexion a boost with our Skin Restoration Program that consists of 5 sessions of CO2 Skin Resurfacing Laser treatment, followed by a LED Red Light treatment to sooth the redness. eCO2 Skin Resurfacing Laser treatment delivers deep dermal benefits which includes stimulation of collagen and improvement in overall skin texture and elasticity.

4 Ways to Restore the Radiant Skin You Had in Your Early 20s

4 Ways to Restore the Radiant Skin You Had in Your Early 20s

Radium Medical Aesthetics reveals the 4 ways in which we can turn back the clock and go back to the fresh radiant skin we once had.

No one is spared by the ravages of time. Life is too short to be doing monotonous skincare routine that does not do much to age-proof your skin anyway. Don’t relent to the natural process of aging. Life is too short for that. We say: It’s time to break out of your usual skincare routine, and claim back what you once had!

Turn Back the Clock to Your Early 20s

Remember the times when you were in your early 20s? Your skin was at the peak of its health. It was probably well-hydrated, firm, and bright.

Taking you back to reality, if your skin is anything but bright and radiant, Restylane SkinBoosters will help you to restore your youth. Stabilised hyaluronic acid fillers are introduced just under the skin to bring back the hydration so the skin immediately looks firmer and brighter.

Combine this treatment with Dual Yellow Laser to transform your skin and give it a further boost. Intense, yet gentle yellow and green lights emitted from Dual Yellow Laser are capable of reaching the deep dermis to break down the residual pigments and reduce the production of melanin in the skin so the recurrence rate is low. Skin brightening effect can be achieved by removing pigments and treat scars and stretch mark.

From Saggy to Smooth Skin

Our skin is at the mercy of several factors when we age – harsh environment and bad dietary habits also directly affect our skin. As we grow older, the skin becomes thin and more translucent because of the thinning of the epidermis. It also becomes loose and saggy because of the loss of elastic fibers and collagen.

To combat loose and saggy skin, you can consider non-surgical thread lift such as Silhouette Soft Thread Lift or PDO Thread Lift. Both treatments require the doctor to simply insert dissolvable threads with anchors and barbs to compress and reposition sagging and loose skin.

For people who are averse to needles, there is a non-invasive skin lifting option for you. Ultherapy Skin Lifting uses high intensity focused ultrasound to stimulate more collagen production in your skin. Although results are not as visible and immediate as thread lift treatment, Ultherapy skin lifting works on the foundational layers of the skin to provide an overall anti-aging effect so as to delay signs of aging.

Don’t Neglect Your Hands

We are often caught up with spending money to anti-age our face but we always neglect our hands. The daily abuse of our hands results in bony hands with thin, roughened skin, covered in sunspots and other pigmentation.

The good news is that dermal fillers are effective for plumping the skin by adding volume in deficient areas. Radiesse dermal filler is the first and only dermal filler approved by the FDA for hand augmentation to provide hand rejuvenation treatment. Unlike other regular dermal fillers, Radiesse continues to stimulate the treated area to stimulate collagen for a more youthful appearance.

Beware: A Saggy Neck Tells Your Real Age

You may not notice but the skin on your neck goes through the same wear and tear your face is. No matter how youthful your face looks, if you have saggy neck, it’s a telling sign of your real age. Other than trying to hide your sagging neck with scarves and turtlenecks, why don’t you do something about it?

By employing a special technique, the aesthetic doctor is able to relax the muscles in the neck which pulls the skin downwards. Botox is used in this neck lifting treatment to lift and tighten the neck and lower face and improve the overall appearance.

The Reason Why Men Are Getting BOTOX

The Reason Why Men Are Getting BOTOX

It is a long standing stereotype that women love to pretty themselves up while guys will just throw on a t-shirt and jeans and be on their way. While this stereotype does have merit, it is not as solid as one may think. Even men care about their appearance. They may show this care in a different way then women do, but they do still very much care. It is because of this desire to look good and attractive that cause so many men to hit the gym all the time.

But one thing more and more men are starting to realize is that women do not just want a guy with a nice body, but a nice face as well. What I mean by this is that some guys will have a lot of lines and wrinkles, which can detract from their overall attractiveness. This is why Men and Botox are starting to come together.

In the past, men did not like to use cosmetic things because it would make them feel overly feminine, like it was a womans thing. This feeling is still very much true, which is why you do not see many guys getting manicures. But when it comes to botox, this is something even men are starting to make use of.

Botox is a great way for a man to remove those pesky wrinkles and lines from his face, giving him a softer, more youthful appearance to go with that physique he has been working on. It has very little to do with typical woman’s products and as such it is becoming more widely acceptable for men to make use of it.

Men and Botox may be becoming more popular, but there are still many who hold reservations. They are still afraid that it is a bit too feminine for their tastes and it makes them uncomfortable. This is why a common question asked by potential botox users is just how many guys actually use botox.

Safe to say, thousands, if not millions of men use botox to regain their youthful appearance. Even more men are starting to use it as well, making that number go even higher as the days roll by.

While men are starting to accept botox as being on the same level as working out at the gym (By that I mean, something both men and women can do) they might also be wary of the potential risks. Using treatments like this are fairly foreign and so it should come as no surprise why some guys would have some reservations.

Botox does have side effects, but for the most part they are mild and diminish rapidly if you have them at all. In some rare cases more extreme side effects can occur, such as difficulty breathing or swallowing due to the way botox works.

If you are a guy and are interesting in making use of botox, you should not feel any shame in your choice. As I said above, it is no different then hitting the gym, you are simply making yourself more attractive so that you can appeal to women more.

Here Are the Newest Injections to Combat Wrinkles

Here Are the Newest Injections to Combat Wrinkles

For women who want to look younger, and even some men, the newest injections for the wrinkles may be something to consider if you have tried everything else with little to no results.

Having a qualified professional inject substances that help turn back the clock by diminishing the deep lines and creases you see every day may be your next option.

The newest injections for the wrinkles vary with most common being the ones that are collagen based. As we age, our skin loses it’s elasticity and collagen becomes less prevalent under the skin making those creases and fine lines become more noticeable.

Other types of injectables are fat grafts, acid-based fillers, Botox, and silicone. Fat grafts are your own fatty tissue that is removed from one area of the body to another.

Acid-based fillers, such as Restylane, are quickly becoming more popular for those that want a longer lasting procedure.

Botox, which is derived from the botulism toxin, is the most cost effective and provides a quick fix to problem areas.

The most popular of the injectables is silicone. Microdroplet Liquid Silicone is injected beneath the layers of skin on the face which helps the muscles around the eyes and mouth relax giving the skin a smoother, softer look.

The results of these fillers can be amazing. These types of treatments add plumpness to the skin and fill in deep lines and creases. Your cheeks and lips appear fuller and your eyelids look lifted.

These types of procedures are usually performed in twenty minutes or less, on an outpatient basis, in a clinic or doctors office.

Possible side effects include itching, redness, swelling, and a temporary hardening of the area. Although rare, in some cases an allergic reaction can occur, which can be life threatening.

Since everyone is different the length of time each procedure lasts depends on that particular person and how deep the lines and creases were to begin with and how they react to the treatment.

While some patients may not need a touch up for a year, others may need to make an appointment within three months for one.

Before undergoing any type of surgical procedure do your homework. Research the different types, results, side effects and most importantly the doctor who will be performing the procedure. There have been numerous reports regarding the dangers of receiving these procedures by physicians who are not skilled in giving them.

Blood clots can result from the filler being accidentally injected into a blood vessel, creating a life threatening emergency that requires immediate attention.

For this reason, it is best to ask someone who has had a good result for a recommendation as well as asking for the qualifications of the physician you choose and to see testimonials of former patients.

Companies everywhere continue to work furiously to be the first to create the next best thing in skin fillers. The demand for anti-aging products keeps growing due to the Baby Boomer generation becoming older every year.

Due to these procedures being considered cosmetic in nature, the newest injections for the wrinkles aren’t covered under health insurance policies. The average price for looking younger is between five hundred and one thousand dollars, per syringe.
